I love body lotions. But I don't love the packaging. It's rarely easy to recycle, and even if it is, recycling isn't going to save the world. We need to do better.
Which is one of the reasons I love using olive oil as a moisturizer.
Olive Oil is...
- Available in a glass bottle
- Super Affordable
- Full of Antioxidants
- Reduces Signs of Aging
- Comedogenic Rating of 2 so it's unlikely to clog your pores
While I don't use this oil on my face that often (my face really loves argan oil!) I use it all over as a body moisturizer. I find it's best to use a little bit of oil at a time, as using too much can leave your skin feeling heavy and can grease up your clothes.
Geranium + Lemon DIY Body Oil
I like to use about fifty drops of essential oil to one cup of olive oil. I have sensitive skin and I find this dilution is totally okay, but if you have very sensitive skin you can always start with less essential oil and work your way up.
Just in time for Spring, my favourite body oil is made with one cup olive oil, 30 drops geranium essential oil, and twenty drops lemon essential oil. It's bright and uplifting, with a touch of floral notes from the geranium.
It's important to store your oil in a dark glass bottle away from light. I use an old hand soap bottle and keep it in my medicine cabinet
