I hope you've all had a great holiday season and had time to relax and take care of yourselves. I'm really excited to share my 2016 green beauty favourites with you!
All of these products were new discoveries this year that truly wowed me. I've included links to full reviews if you'd like to know more about each product.
As always, if you have any questions, or want to share your favourites, comment below! And if you know anyone looking to get into green beauty, send them this post to help them get started.
The Best Makeup
Satin Matte Foundation // Alima Pure
Despite some acne and acne scars, I do prefer lighter coverage products. I want something to cover the spots, but not feel heavy.
With just four ingredients, this powder is very light, but provides a perfect, natural, matte finish that effectively covers any redness without caking my skin.
Enchanted Eye Palette* // Mineral Fusion
This palette is absolutely dreamy. I've shared the colours on Instagram, but due to eye issues I'm not able to wear any eye makeup right now, so I haven't had the chance to create a makeup look for you. As soon as I get the issues sorted, I'll create a few looks for you.
The colours are so beautiful and the pigment is perfect, just like with all of the Mineral Fusion shadows. They're not too heavy, but not too light. They're easy to work with and they are long lasting.
Natural Vegan Mascara* // Lily Lolo
I'm kind of picky with mascaras, as I find some can be irritating and a lot just don't do the job.
This one is a really great, all around mascara that adds colour, length, and volume. You can see it for yourself in these before and after pictures.
Lipstick in Molten // Mineral Fusion
Mineral Fusion makes my favourite lipsticks. The colours are gorgeous and they've got the best formula. It's long lasting, easy to work with, and just all around dreamy.
This shade is my favourite, it's a brightening lipstick that instantly makes my entire makeup look much more put together.
The Best Skincare
Clarity + Enlightenment Konjac Facial Sponge Duo* // Andalou Naturals
My skin needs exfoliation, but it's also sensitive, so a lot of exfoliants are too harsh. Using these sponges for the first time was revolutionary, because I'm able to properly remove dead skin cells and allow my skin to breathe, without irritating it.
These ones are my favourite because they're infused with acne fighting ingredients that help to clarify my skin at the same time.
Plus they're biodegradable, and the packaging is recycable at places that accept plastic bags, like grocery stores.
Instant Hydro Serum Facial Masks* // Andalou Naturals
These masks are literally an instant facial. Each is designed for specific skin types, so my favourite is of course the one for dry skin.
It instantly hydrates and soothes my skin, giving my a long lasting, healthy glow. They're also perfect for travel and as part of your post travel routine.
3 Step Set for Dry / Sensitive Skin* // Sattva Pure (Discontinued)
Sattva Pure sent me their skincare line a few months ago, and it's completley exceeded any expectations I had. Each product is literally perfect for my skin.
The cleanser has a lovely citrus scent with pineapple enzymes to gently exfoliate.
The toner is helps to calm and soothe, and I use it throughout the day and as a makeup setting spray.
The moisturizer is heavenly, it hydrates my entire face, leaving it matte and comfortable, something no other cream has been able to do.
I will be doing a thorough review on these soon!
Frankincense Argan Oil // Leaves of Trees
My skin loves argan oil for it's hydrating and healing properties. It's wonderful all year long, but it's a luxurious facial oil to use in the winter.
This argan oil is the best I've ever used, and I've tried a lot. It's really great for healing acne, acne scars, and wrinkles. The frankincense adds a lovely scent and extra healing powers.
If frankincense isn't your thing, Leaves of Trees has an entire line of ethically and sustainably made argan oils.
Sport Sunscreen Stick SPF 30 // Badger Balm
Everyone needs a good sunscreen. After dealing with a lot of "meh" sunscreens, I finally discovered this one.
Made with just a few, simple, and organic ingredients, this one is really hydrating while still protecting your skin.
It's great under makeup, and the stick packaging allows for quick and easy application, and easy on the go touch ups.
The Best Bodycare
Charcoal Soap* // Woodlot
A good soap is hard to come by. I love Woodlot's simple, hydrating formula that's not going to strip your skin of your natural oils. I also love that this one is infused with charcoal to help draw out toxins. It's the only bar of soap that's helped with problematic skin on my back.
Sea Salt + Sugar Scrub in Lime* // Sattva Pure (Discontinued)
I love a good scrub, and the unique mix of sea salt and sugar makes this one my favourite. It's incredibly nourishing, with hydrating oils and butters. The lime scent is to die for, it's invigorating and uplifting but also calming and balancing.
Rosemary + Mint Body Butter* // Urban Alchemist
Urban Alchemist has created a beautiful body butter formula that's just perfect for my skin. It's not heavy, but it's truly moisturizing. I love this herbal and refreshing scent that's perfect when you want to get cozy in the Winter.
Cocoa Skin Cream // Meow Meow Tweet
This is another body butter I really loved in 2016. This opened up the world to simple skincare for me, as it's made with just four, really healing ingredients.
It's also sparked a love for cocoa butter. Not only is it nourishing, but it has a really nice, natural, light, chocolate scent without any extra additives.
You can even use this on your face, which I have not tried yet, but will be doing when I get a new jar.
Organic Lip Balm // S.W. Basics
Speaking of cocoa butter, these lip balms have changed my lip care. Instead of using all kinds of lip products to hydrate my skin, these balms, made with cocoa butter, coconut oil, and essential oils, get the job done.
The cocoa one is my favourite, but the peppermint one tastes like a peppermint hot chocolate, so it's lovely during the Winter.
The Best Misc.
The Skin Cleanse // Adina Grigore
This book has revolutionized the way I look at skincare. I've written an entire post about it, so I really recommend reading that by clicking the link above.
Adina opened my eyes to not only using natural skincare, but simple skincare with minimal ingredients. Ever since I read this I've felt empowered to look for simpler products and I've been inspired to start making my own.
Beeswax Candles //
Beeswax candles are one of the zero waste ways to scent your home. I love getting them at the bulk store I go to because they're completely free of packaging. We also really want to start making our own with local beeswax.
Palo Santo // Woodlot
Another zero waste option, palo santo is one of my favourite finds of 2016. I love the cleansing properties that help to clear the energy and cleanse our space.
Cone Incense //
I used to use incense sticks, but they kind of make a mess. My partner introduced me to cone incense, which has been wonderful. It's way less of a mess, but I'm still able to use incense, another favourite way to scent our space and cleanse the energy.
I'd love to know your 2016 green beauty favourites so feel free to pop them in the comments!
