How to Reduce Inflammation + Balance Your Skin

How to Reduce Inflammation + Balance Your Skin

I'm always looking to simplify my beauty routines, because while I adore having them, I don't want to make them too complicated or too expensive. I also have really sensitive skin that's tough to please.

On a Personal Note.

Over the Summer I struggled with severely irritated skin. I was incorporating too many new products too quickly, so it made it really difficult to figure out what was wrong. Turns out it was all of it. But it all started when I went without toner.

I had read a few articles that said toner wasn't necessary so in my quest for simplicity I decided to skip it. That was not a good idea.

At first my pores started to look really big and congested, my skin looked rough and uneven, and then I noticed redness and irritation. My skin also felt hot and prickly.

The light bulb moment for me was when I was shopping and looked in a mirror. My face was bright red, especially compared to my pale neck. I knew I had to do something.

I went home and decided to go back to basics. I bought some skincare products that I had used before so I knew they worked well.

I was also sent the Sattva Pure Dry + Sensitive Skincare Line* (Discontinued) and that's when things really began to change. Right away I started using their toner. It worked to calm and soothe my skin, reducing inflammation and irritation.

Once the inflammation died down, so did the symptoms - the redness, the large pores, uneven tone, and congestion. My acne disappeared too, because my skin was balanced.

So Why Do We Need a Toner?

It really helps to balance your skin. While toners can have different effects, like brightening, clarifying, and hydrating, I've noticed they work to balance your skin, which can keep inflammation and acne at bay.

Ruthie Harper, of the Laser and Skincare Clinic in Austin and founder of SkinShift Skin Care says that "toners are actually quite hydrating and packed with active ingredients to treat and soothe skin." Read more here

What Are My Toner Recommendations?

While I love trying new skincare products, a good toner is something I always like to keep in rotation. I love the Sattva Pure Restore & Replenish Hydrating Mist* (Discontinued) and the Andalou Naturals Blossom + Leaf Toning Refresher.

I'd love to know your thoughts on toners and how you reduce inflammation!

With love,

Sarah
