“Life isn’t fair”
“Nobody said life was easy”
“Suck it up buttercup”
Okay. Well. Um. No.
If you’re a human over the age of eighteen, you’ve probably heard these a few times. And if you’re a human with any kind or any degree of mental illness, you’ve definitely heard it.
There’s a reason I talk about self care all the time. Because I simply can’t NOT practice self care. I don’t have that option. I have severe, disabling anxiety, and without my frequent hot baths, luxurious skin care rituals, time with my best friend, and a never ending flow of tea, I’d be a mess.
And sometimes, even with all of my rituals, I’m still a mess. A hot mess. But a mess nonetheless.
If you spend some time reading about self care and mental health, you’ll get lots of different ideas on the matter. But I think, and I’ve always believed, that everyone’s mental health journey is different. I also don’t believe in magic tricks to solve all of your problems.
But I do believe that there are innovative pioneers in the world of health and wellness who are creating things that allow everyone to be their best selves. People who are advocating that we take our wellness into our own hands in a way that’s safe for our bodies and safe for the planet.
I met Amy a few years ago, and I immediately noticed her warmth, her kindness, and how eager she was (and is) to collaborate and share her knowledge to help others. Now that she’s using her backgrounds in integrative herbalism, natural products, and marketing to create a brand dedicated to women’s health and wellness, I’m so happy to share some of her innovative products with you.
When she introduced me to the line, she took time out of her day to sit down with me to talk about my health needs so we could match me with supplements that would actually help me in my daily routines.
After realizing that my anxiety is probably the biggest source of any kind of health problems, Amy chose two supplements for me - L-Theanine Relax & Focus Support and Schisandrala Stress Support. Notice how she calls them support products? That’s what I LOVE - these products aren’t meant to fix your life; they’re meant to support you each and every day as part of a holistic approach to health.
I started using L-Theanine right away. L-Theanine is an amino acid found in green tea. This supplement quiets and clears your mind, giving you the ability to focus on the task at hand. It’s like a literal chill pill. Any kind of stress and anxiety can make your head feel like it’s about to explode - it’s like there’s a bunch of people having an intense conversation and you just want it to stop. And L-Theanine makes it possible to stop the chatter.
I know you want to hear the science behind this, and I’m so with you. At Her Vital Way, they use an AlphaWave® source of purified L-Theanine that has been clinically tested in a double blind-placebo controlled study. The researchers found that this source of L-Theanine had a positive effect on the alpha wave production in the brand, one of the many indicators of relaxation.
What does that mean? It means Her Vital Way uses a form of L-Theanine that actually relaxes your brain. And the best part? Unlike a cup of chamomile tea, L-Theanine won’t make you sleepy or drowsy. So you can take one in the morning, and instead of yawning away, you’ll feel calm and focused so you can get on with your day!
The second supplement Amy introduced me to is Schisandrala Stress Support. Based on the adaptogen, schisandra berry, this supplement simply helps our bodies and minds adapt to stressful situations.
It works by helping you better manage your stress, reducing fatigue, and increasing your energy without making you feel hyper. It’s kind of like a chill pill in overdrive. When you experience stress (like that looming deadline), this supports your body by reducing the negative effects of stress (like fatigue) and helping you keep your energy up so you can keep moving forward.
I’ve always wanted to try adaptogens, and I’m so glad I got to start with this one. I have noticed a difference in how I’m experiencing stress. It doesn’t seem like the end of the world now, and my body definitely doesn’t take the hit it used to. I demand a lot from my body, from workouts to work days, and I’ve always needed hours upon hours of sleep to keep up. But I’ve found that since taking this, while I still need a good night’s sleep, I don’t need ten plus hours, and my body isn’t as achy at the end of the day.
Like I said, I don’t believe in magic tricks. And I don’t believe in one magic pill. But I do believe that we should take a holistic approach to our physical and mental health by going beyond the basics, and looking at what we can to take our health to the next level. And I’m so glad that Her Vital Way is offering this support to women by offering accessible supplements that support your body and mind so you can be your best self.
