How Holistic Skincare Can Improve Your Skin

I've recently updated my social profiles and my tagline with the term, holistic skincare or holistic beauty. You may be wondering why. I feel like green beauty doesn't cover the kinds of posts I want to write.

My skin's health and appearance is not only determined by the products I use, but by my hormones, stress levels, diet, water intake, ect. I feel like it's showing you only a part of my experience if I just talk about products.

I want to give you all of my tips, from the teas that help to improve digestion to the many ways I manage stress. 

I also want to talk more about self care and how we can practice self love through the products we use and the routines we create. 

Today I want to talk about holistic skincare and why it's important to take a holistic viewpoint to really improve the look and health of your skin. 

What is Holistic Skincare? 

When you search 'holistic' in google, it gives the definition, "characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole." 

I understand holistic skincare as looking at all of the ways we can improve our skin's health and appearance.

While products are wonderful and frankly I'll never go without them, I think it's important to look at how our skin is affected by our environment, our mental space, our diet, ect. It's looking at our entire lifestyle instead of just the products. 

How Can Holistic Skincare Help Me? 

Holistic skincare can empower you and give you the tools to really improve your skin's health and your overall well being.

By looking at your habits and routines, like what you're eating, how much water you're drinking, or how much you're sleeping, you can really improve your health without spending hundreds of dollars on products. 

So How Do I Get Started? 

Good question. Take a look at this post where I share my experience with food journals and product logs. Give it a go and look at what you're really eating.

Think about your sleep habits, your exercise routine, and how you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally throughout the day.

Think about how your skin changes with the seasons, with your cycle, with your lifestyle changes.
