3 DIY Face Steam Recipes to Soothe, Awaken, + Detox

DIY Face Steam Recipes to Soothe, Awaken, + Detox

I've talked about DIY scrubs and masks, and now I want to share my newest obsession, face steaming!

Using tea, herbs, flowers, and essential oils, you can open and cleanse your pores. You'll be left with fresh, glowy skin!

What is Face Steaming?

It's a simple way to treat your skin. It helps to open and cleanse your pores, giving you a chance to heal and repair your skin.

It's also a first step to an at home facial. Start with a face steam, follow with a mask, maybe a gentle facial massage, and the rest of your skincare routine.

How Does Face Steaming Work?

  1. Start by properly cleansing your face and removing all of your makeup.
  2. Pour boiling water into a bowl
  3. Add essential oils, tea bags, herbs, ect.
  4. Hold your face over the bowl and cover your head with a towel
  5. Sit for 10-15 min
  6. Use any masks or treatments and then follow up with the rest of your skincare routine.

What Do I Use for Face Steaming?

Getting started can seem overwhelming, because every ingredient has different properties. I've included three different recipes I've used and love, so you can choose what's right for you!

Soothing //

5 Cucumber Slices

1 Chamomile Tea Bag

5 Drops Lavender Essential Oil

Awakening + Uplifting //

Orange + Lemon Peels

1 Chai Tea Bag

5 Drops Essential Oil

Detox //

Lemon Peels

1 Green Tea Bag

5 Drops Peppermint or Eucalyptus Essential Oil

There are a lot of other combinations you can use, so once you get used to the process, experiment! If you have a garden, use fresh herbs like mint, lavender, rose, or even eucalyptus leaves. When you use citrus in the kitchen, save the peels for a steam. You can always throw your favourite tea bags in there for some extra herbal love.

Have you tried face steaming? What did you think?

Until next time,

Sarah
